For this episode, I sat down with Division Reading Specialist, Vickie Williams. Mrs. Williams is a sweet individual who wants the best for our children no matter what subject area, but her true passion is reading.
As most of you know, my area of expertise is science. Many times at school I become so frustrated because I feel like science is pushed to the back of curriculum and instruction; however, this interview, serving on the school improvement team, and episode 4 (#devotion) have pushed me to change my mind and see literacy in a true new perspective. Reading and writing skills are fundamentally important- so important that I have never stopped to think about (until now) how are kids supposed to do science (or any subject) if they cannot read and write.
