For this episode, I reached out to someone who works outside of Floyd County in order to get their perspective on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Matt Hurt, is the featured guest this episode. Matt is the director of CIP (Comprehensive Instructional Program) which works with divisions across the state to promote regional collaboration for the betterment of our schools and students.

Matt is a humble, realistic individual who offers a lot of perspective about education from his extensive background of experiences in education. One thing he is an expert at is data. He has this innate ability to look at, present, and analyze data from multiple angles, with the purpose of helping teachers to do the same in order to promote better learning and SOL scores.

Throughout this episode we talk a lot about CIP but also, why data is important, why SOLs are important, he provides valuable insight about the importance of setting high expectations for students and staff, and we have some tough conversations about what commonly happens in other schools if those expectations along with effective feedback are not present. He also believes in the power of collaboration of PLCs- ensuring that people go outside their classrooms, schools, and divisions in order to "find out who is getting it done, and figure out what it is that they're doing."
