To kick off this podcast, I started with one of the greatest mentors I have encountered throughout my teaching career- Jessica Cromer. Mrs. Cromer is the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Innovation for Floyd County Public Schools. The following interview talks about curriculum, instruction, and assessment (CIA) but also the importance of student relationships.
The biggest takeaway from my talk with Mrs. Cromer is the importance of structure. In my ideal educational world would I like to give more autonomy to teachers, creativity to students, and overall loosen the structure of pacing guides, division made lessons, benchmarks, and SOLs? YES! But, structure is needed for teacher autonomy to work, to guide student learning, and to ensure that students across the state do have some type of equity, no matter what division they come from, that allows them to be prepared for their future- college bound or career bound.
We talked about so many other things that are enlightening and uplifting! Take a listen to all of the great wisdom that she offers along with her reflections of her own learning experiences and current learning for the 21st century learner.
