Devotion (n): love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person, activity, or causes.
In this episode I sit down and chat with Mrs. Leona Brown, Principal at Check Elementary in the FCPS division. When you listen, you will find that Mrs. Brown is most accurately described by the word devoted. She loves her job, her students, and her teachers. She is loyal to them. In her voice you can hear her how she has an infectious, genuine smile which furthermore proves she also has the enthusiasm for learning and creating life long learners.
Our talk focuses on her love for literacy, which is a skill that many divisions, teachers, and students are struggling with, whether it is ensuring that students are on reading grade level or fostering the idea of how wonderful reading can be. This then lends itself to conversations about writing and assessment. Some questions are brought up about student engagement, creativity, and promoting devotion within them. Her great ideas show that as a leader she believes in communication, collaboration, and trusting individuals to build relationships and carry out programs that they believe are best for the students.
Take a listen, even if it is just to hear her smile!
